Subject: Re: FIDE KO Semi-Finalist TPRs

Go up one level in this thread

I have three points to make:

1. I looked at FIDE site, list of TOP 100 Men, July 1, 1999 rating list, and it
matched 4 of the 5 players I mentioned in my above posts. Nisipeanu was not in
the TOP 100, but I read another post in another thread above and the figure I
used for Nisi is what the other person claims is in the FIDE July 1, 1999 list.

2. I made a mistake replying to KarensDad since I was thinking of my calculated
TPR ratings when I replied, and not the Ave Opp Rtgs he was discussing--sorry
about that! I see I do make errors--hmmm.

3. Here are the requested additional calculations (Player ratings are
unchanged, and are from July 1, 1999 FIDE List, best I can verify):

	              polgar	adams	akopian	khalifman nisipeanu
Player 2671	2708	2646	2628 2584
Ave Opp with Rd 1 2637	2636 2637
Ave Opp without Rd 1 2592	2664 2655	2653 2664

As pointed out by KarinsDad, without Rd 1 opponents in the calculations the ave
opp rtgs faced by Akopian, Khalifman and Nisipeanu are closer to the ave opp rtg
faced by Adams (but *not* Polgar, who faced a lower ave opp rtg). Of course,
the three latter names also played *more* rounds than Polgar and Adams, who were
eliminated at earlier rounds, and Adams played one more round than Polgar, so
there no 'apples to apples' comparison on the bottom row above. If I have
compared apples to oranges and you want apples to apples, please let me know
which apples you want compared and I will oblige. :)
