I don't think you are alone.  I use mine (Fritz5.32 and Shredder) mainly for
analysis, games and/or positions, with an occasional game now and then to see if
it got weaker :-)  But, even the analysis I don't take as gospel because these
are mainly tactical engines that are weaker at analyzing positional moves.
However, I am not a strong enough player to refute what the programs consider
the best move and from a tactics standpoint, they are merciless.
