Go up one level in this thread
I have played dozens of games against my Fritz 5.32, Hiarcs 7.32, CM6000 and Genius 5. My total plus score is 1 draw. It used to concern me that I would see the occasional column in Chess Life and Review where some 1500-rated player would submit a couple of his wins against a top program complete with comments ridiculing the computer's moves. I have come to believe that the reason that I (who plays probably about at a 1700 level) can not do the same is that I don't count games where I cheat (watch the program's analysis display, take back moves, ignore time limits) and I have not played several hundred games so that I can submit 1 or 2 wins and not mention the hundreds of losses. I believe that most players rated at or below 1800 USCF are going to find that victories over any top program on fast hardware under true tournament conditions are very rare. There may be some exceptions, especially with some one who becomes very familiar with a particular program but for the most part, you are not alone. eric
