Subject: Re: Does anyone Beat their Program or am I just lousy against computers?

Go up one level in this thread

As I have stated earlier in this forum, I regularly beat my computer - severe-
but I don't think that's the kind of beating you are talking about. :-)

The problem with a lot of people who are not that strong and beat computers by
anti-computer tactics is that they play a lot of games. Eventually the program
will stumble into a situation where he knows tactics and you see strategics. I
guess that those chances are equal to beating a 2550 rated player by a 1500
patzer: nihil, but nevertheless, sometimes it happens.

A second remark is that maybe you are talking a little bit out of frustration.
If you play the top programs top strenght your frustration will stay.
If you use you program(s) for a broad range of goals (training, trying out
openings, solving middle games, using databases, help with analysis, replay of
famous GM games, solving puzzles, playing for fun, playing full strenght, well,
I think we're living in a time heaven sent. |-)

If your frustration (what a heavy expression |:0) is the cause of your supposed
lousiness, reasses your use of computer programs. Myself I play lots of blitz
games against them at the strongest settings (mine and theirs....) and loose ALL
the time. But I know I'm going to loose and I have a new challenge - stay in the
game as long as possible, while trying out a simple patzer plan. Afterwards I
ask myself where it went wrong ('cause it always goes wrong) By using a lot of
games and utilities like database programs and analysis modules I slowly but
firmly get a glimpse of what I should have done in all those games, hopefully
improving my play.

But hey, maybe that second part of my message doesn't refer to you. Maybe you
like to be lousy against your computer :-)))

At my site some REAL valuable training advice. Millions were there before you
(and fled the site in panic) Don't miss it: http://zip.to/jeroen
