IBM has always made very good solid computers, I don't know about their current
stuff but I setup an old 486 IBM for my brother's family and made the OS as kid
proof as posible and all I can really say is that the thing was built like a
brick.

As far as Unix/Linux goes you might think about getting hold of the xboard
interface at Tim Mann's site (see the resource center links) because there's
quite a few good programs that run in Linux that interface through Xboard like
Crafty, Phalanx, Fortress, Gromit, and a new program that's getting stronger but
still somewhat weak is Pierre.
