Subject: some thoughts about crafty

Author: pete

tonight i thought i wanted to know how strong the newest and strongest crafty is
.

first : I started with the nastiest task ; renaming my TB files ; as I got them
from the hiarcs CD ; so you have to lower the first letter of the file and add
an additional point to it ; a task that would take about 1 minute of time under
linux or unix ; but under NT ? 20 minutes :=)

dear Mr Hyatt ; supporting the HIARCS type of name would take you 5 minutes ,
why you let us suffer :=) ??

second : I need winboard , download from mann's page

third : lucky me ; i still have book.bin on my hard disk for some unknown reason
; wow , this is a nice day

fourth : i need the newest binary : can get the fastest from dann corbit's site
: done

fifth : book.bin ; hah ; this is done fast , lol ; downloaded from bob hyatt's
site

sixth : the Crafty.rc :

log on
learn 7
noise 30000
book on
book random 1
book width 2
resign 9
display extstat

as an experienced guy I know how to put that :=)

seventh : winboard.ini

\"Crafty1 /hash=48M /hashp=20M /cache=16M /tbpath=e:\\TBS\" /fd=e:\\crafty

is the obvious line to be added :=)

So i set up the first game : crafty on PII233 , Hiarcs 7.01 on PII233 and get :

a really kewl game , nice analysis for free :

no; I won't put the logfile ; those who will understand this message will know
it anyway ... ; and else this post too long anyway !

I think Crafty is one of the best progs around ; it is even possible that it
already _is_ the best ; i payed 100 dollars for hiarcs and nothing for crafty ,
so even better :=)

But how often will Crafty be tested with reasonable strong settings I think to
myself after I did all that stuff :=))
