I've had the sort of bug you describe on a number of occasions, sometimes its
hashing related but sometimes it isn't.  Sometimes it is the result of a data
structure becoming corrupted due to a particular series of events that have
occured in the game.

There are a number of things you can try:
- replay the moves from the game, and try the search after that.
- try getting the program to search the previous few positions that it would
have searched in the game, then search the problem position.
- output more information to your log file so that you will understand the
problem better next time.
- check that your total node counts are the same when running a test suite to a
fixed depth twice in a row (without restarting the program).
