Crafty is my favorite chess program. I have some that I bought. I have some commercial ones I got free. I have lots of winboard engines. Crafty is my favorite. Not because it is super strong. Others may or may not be stronger. It is plenty strong enough at any rate. Not because it is full of features. Other programs have as many features (though none analyzes EPD quite so beautifully). Not because it has source code I can trace. Other programs are available with source. Not because it has leading edge features like tablebase files. Other programs have tablebase files. Not because it has a developer who is willing to share his thoughts with others. Other products have that too. Not because it is so configurable and portable. Other programs are configurable and portable. It is because of all of these things that Crafty is my favorite chess program.
