I don't think that there is a bug in the Winboard adapter for the ChessBase
32-bit programs. The ChessBase multiengine system is quite flexible and it is
possible that you haven't got something right. I am using the 17 January 1999
version of the adapter for Cilian (22,528 bytes) and it works fine with my Fritz
5.32.  I should work with Hiarcs 7.32 too. Here's my *.init file for Cilian
4.13, it may help:

[Parameter]
CommandLine = Cilian -hash17 -xboard -mvnw
Engine = Cilian 4.13
Author = Francois Scheurer
[Support]
AnalyzeMode = False
PonderMode = False
