One analogy comes to mind here: Why noone cried 'FAULT, Hackers, illegal' when chessbase wrote adapter for all winboard-compatible engines? Do you think all engine authors liked that their program can be run within CB interface? Did ChessBase have to 'hack' or alter in any way those executables? Or ask all engine authors for permission? No... they just copied protocol.... What it so hard to understand here? Cheers -Andrew- P.S. This post is not against ChessBase...
