I just pointed out that if you play a match between (say) fritz and hiarcs, hiarcs will probably do better at 1 0. Not as well at 2 0, and it will keep getting worse as the time control gets longer, because null move failures become less frequent... Thorsten and I once had a long discussion about his playing some version of CSTal vs Crafty, but he was using very slow computers and fast time controls. I told him I was developing on the P6/200, and that if he used that sort of machine, the ugly crafty losses would disappear. He changed hardware, and then reported that suddenly things were _far_ different with no obvious tactical mistakes dropped into a game by Crafty. Null move is good and bad. The longer the time control, the fewer errors they introduce...
