it didn't work for me.
 i tried it in both chessprogram and my draughtsprogram.

Searched a lot deeper with draughtsprog, but to no avail.
in draughts one in zugzwang loses game simply, only goal
of draughts is to get zugzwang...

for chess: use nullmove and recursively.

with next double improvement:

  if( previous move nullmove
   && 2 moves ago nullmove )
    don't allow nullmove now

and of course don't allow it when in check, that's it!
