I'm running Windows98, which is normally an OK thing. (Although I'd prefer to be running NT...) However, my mouse broke, and is no longer recognized by Windows. Until I can get a new mouse, I have to control Windows with keyboard only, which I recently compared to drinking water from a sieve. To make it worse, the mouse pointer is still in the center of the screen, as if it thinks it can perform some function other than obscure whatever happens to be behind it. Needless to say, I can't play chess anymore against my computer except in text mode. I lose even more than normal! :P Even tasks that should be simple without a mouse, like writing a post here, are far more difficult than they should be. Anyway, the moral of this story is that one should always have a functional mouse when trying to run any flavor of Windows.
