Why do we use ratings? Do they have any value? If we are going to assign the World title after a common tournament (Swiss, or Schuring, or small matchs with smaller time-control tie-breaks...), so why do we have to rely on ratings? Schredder is the current WCC Champion, but in many rating lists it is not the first; now we have a similar situation in human Chess, as FIDE has a "low-rated" Champion. Well, maybe the way we assign the Champion tittle is wrong (in both cases...). I think Kasparov is #1, and so Hiarcs, although I'm not so sure of its superiority (I do not own Schredder). I remember Hiarcs did not score well in the last WCC tournament: I think it was just because of the Swiss system; maybe it could do better in Schuring or longer matchs? A. Ponti
