Crafty doesn't fit the cray very well...  IE it would actually be slower than
a good 64 bit micro, because crafty doesn't vectorize at all, and it takes
that to make the cray really scream. The vectorized stuff in Cray Blitz took
_years_ of work to get to the state we left it in...

I'm not looking at this issue, because getting time on a Cray T90 is just too
difficult...  that is why I started over on the micro platforms in the first
place in late 1995 after the last ACM event.

it was just a name I came up with to use as a handle on ICC when I first
started there.  I think my first thought was 'cagey'... but that was already
used, and 'crafty' seemed like a reasonable second choice...  as in "that was
some 'crafty' play..."  or "that was pretty crafty..."
