The reason why I won't switch off the book or use one book for all is well
explained in all the other answers to your tip and I agree with what is written
there.
a.) what is good for program A is not necessarily good for B.
b.) every programmer or his team can decide for him-/her-/themselves how much
time they spend on the book ; it is part of the work same as working on Null
Move secrets.
c.) If your program has a good book you won't tune it to play good in the first
10 moves probably, so the output will be strange.
There is a german guy who often plays tourneys like this and posts the games ;
and the openings usually are boring and meaningless ; as I will have to watch
this is maybe the main reason why I don't like the idea :=) .
Same would be to say : why not switch off tablebase use to see who understands
endings better . Tablebases _are_ a way to understand endings better , same as
opening books _are_ a way to understand openings better IMHO.
