Virtual Chess II is able to handle PGN, so games all around the world. The chess engine is very strong and plays clever. It hasn't got the agressiveness of CS Tal II and a bit less of the 'positional understanding' of Hiarcs, but it's a cunning one :-) However the GUI is very buggy and there are no patches whatsoever. Some problems are attended on the website, but they don't help much. A typical example is the 3d board, which is nice with ray traced and rendered pieces, scalable and to twist and turn as you like. It's the only 3D board I really like. But..... it....goes.....slowww.....grrrzzzz. (Huh, wake up) even on my PII@400MHz with 256 Mb RAM. That's not nice. To be honest: I'm not playing the program very frequently. I am very interested in your experiences with it. Another typical example: I bought the first version, which was called Virtua Chess. For Windows (3.1) the cover shouted. Huh, yeah, never. A year later they came with a special Win 3.1 version. That's sloppy work. Sorry for the harsh comment but that's like it is. But engine = ok and 3D board (if it should work with you) IMO very nice. 'Nuf said, enjoy it. Jeroen ;-}
