Oh yes, I did the bulletins for the CCA - ChessWise International in Statten Moutain, Vermont. Bill Goichberg was the gracious & generous organizer, who also thinks its important enough to have bulletins for the player's, so he hired me. And thanks to Bill and ChessWise for getting all this onto the Web as well. (www.chesswise.com or www.chesstour.com, is the links for more). Unfortunately, he also needed a filler, so I was elected a couple of times. I lost my 1st game to Danny Shipiro, a fine senior master I've known for many years, Shapiro,D (2275) - Tamarkin,L (2150) [A61] Stratton Mountain Vermont CCA Stratton Mountain Vermont CCA (2), 1999 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 c5 3.d5 e6?! A poor choice for me as I don't play benoni positions very well, and my theretical knowledge is weak. A better choice would have been my usaul Benko gambit, or even 1...a6! to get Danny out of his normal territory. 4.Nc3 exd5 5.cxd5 d6 6.Nf3 g6 7.Nd2 a6 8.a4 Bg7 9.Nc4 0-0 10.g3 Qc7 11.Bf4 Rd8 12.Qb3 Bf5 13.Bg2 Ra7 14.e4 Bg4 15.h3 Bc8 16.Nxd6 Rxd6 17.e5 Qb6 18.Qxb6 Rxb6 19.exf6 Bxf6 20.Bxb8 Ra8 21.Bc7 Rxb2 22.Ne4 Bd4 23.0-0 f5 24.Ng5 Bd7 25.d6 Re8 26.Bd5+ Kg7 27.Nf3 Bf6 28.a5 Ree2 29.Rae1 Bb5 30.Rxe2 Bxe2 31.Rc1 g5 32.Bc4 Bxc4 33.Rxc4 1-0 and won the 2nd game against young Zachary Karnazes. I was glad I won, but felt bad about the way it came about; Karnazes,Z - Tamarkin,L (2150) [B14] Stratton Mountain Vermont CCA Stratton Mountain Vermont CCA (8), 1999 [Lawrence S. My young opponent saw how big a mistake this was immedietly after lifting the g pawn. Unfortaunately, it was too late. [29.Qe5+ Kg8 30.h3 When I worried that grabbing the b pawn with 30...Qb1+ and 31...Qxb2 might be dangerous because of the dark square weaknesses around my King.] 29...Qxe2 30.Kh1 Qf1# I felt a little guilty winning because of the touch move rule, but my opponent is only 9 or 10 years old - You got to beat them while they are young, because you won't get too many 2nd chances! 0-1 See, I really only like to play action chess (30 minutes or less), and continue to be embarassed by my own bad moves when recruited to play in 'serious' events. But perhaps its good for one's humility to continue to be reminded that my chess level compared to what I consider good player's is and never will be there...
