It's astounding to me that manufacturers consistently get such a fundamentally important area so completely wrong. The board and pieces size, shape and colours are critical to the enjoyment of the machine for the serious user. I have actually changed the pieces and playing surface on my Karpov Grandmaster to the tournament standard Green and Buff with the common plastic tournament set. It wasn't easy but now the machine is near perfect. But that was a full-size machine which lent itself to such a mod. Dave
