Very interesting question that never came to my mind.
I want also to say (and this is based on what I actually tried)that the
wonderful numbers (nodes per second) could be reached in some other way.
For this take into acount only legal moves. For me legal move is every move
that don't put in danger its own King, never mind the mental health of other
Man. To make good calculation kick out of your game all advanced technics,
like alpha-beta and simlification on the lowest two plys. And now your
numbers can jump to the sky. On my AMD 400, for instance, my engin reached
easely as much as 800000 nodes per second.
