If you are varying from established theory, then have a good reason for such variance. Example: 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Nc3 Nf6 4. Bc4? because of 4...Nxe4! If you check your opening books or databases, theory recommends 4. d4 or 4. Bb5.
