I don't think so in the opening/middlegame.  Endgame they can give 30
plies (IE try fine 70 without hashing and you might get to 16 or so.  With
hashing I get to 30+ in under a second...

but it does help move ordering and tree efficiency...  and maybe you are
closer than I realized, as a factor of 2 in the middlegame is definitely
possible with hashing.  And 2x faster is nearly another ply with null-move
R=2...
