Almost all systems we are using at my work place are multi processor systems
(PA-RISC and x86 architectures). It's so much better for SW development than a
single CPU. Not just servers can benefit from multiple CPUs.

The reason that home PCs will very likely not utilize multiple CPUs is cost. To
lower cost, OEMs try to reduce the number of chips. Although, even home PCs
would greatly benefit from multiple CPUs. Just imagine, you could run an
'infinite analysis' while surfing the net. Try this with one CPU. I started to
use two computers due to the lack of a dual system at home.
