Subject: What's considered Fast Hardware?

Hi

Generally speaking, what does the computer chess community consider fast
hardware nowadays? Pent 200mmx? Pent 300?. I have heard references to the pent
200 as being slow?? This is kind of funny, slow? compared to what? Five years
ago I was hearing people say that the pent90 genius3 was possibly GM strength at
40/2, now every speaks of the pent90 like it is a 386, and when someone beats a
top program on a pent 90 people say that the win was because it was on "weak
hardware. It seems like whatever hardware is considered super strong today, in a
few years when something better comes out, then the rating of the previous
hardware is deflated by a large margin. I will bet that in four years people
will be saying the Rebel 10 only plays at 2300 elo on a pent 450.
Computer rating on various platforms never achieves any continuity.
