I have heard this from many sources too. i do trust these sources.
one source comes from cb itself.

and in my opinion it is another
scandal how ONE company tries to INFLUENCE ICCA chamionships to their
own advantage.
They stopped the sponsor to give all participants BEST machines possible
and instead canalized these BEST parallel pc's "available"
to their own parallel programs junior/fritz.
Together with their "behaviour" in paderborn i can onnly say that
i find it ashaming.

i am NOT your opinion dave.
junior and fritz had very fast machines. i am sure some other programmers,
e.g. shredder (stefan had a parallel version ready) would have profit also
from getting this machines.
These machines were really fast as we have all seen in paderborn with our
own eyes making them 1.600.000 NPS or arround 1.000.000 meanwhile
other programs had less NPS due to slower machines.
Stefan decided to use a normal single CPU PC. because he had the strongest
program (IMO before the match and still afterwards) he had good chances and
won.
so in the end the machine was not this important. but cb dominated
in the first 5 rounds, maybe because of these machines.
