Somehow YES. At the chess-classics in frankfurt FRITZ uses the SIEMENS PRIMERGY and won before Leko, Topalov, Svidler, Polgar , Lutz and Morosewitsch and Adams. Also Anand was there and this was a big advertising day for Siemens. They had a very good press. They HAVE some influence on Siemens, since cb gives Siemens the best PR-job that is possible. So : if chessBase says: if you give all participants a primergy, we will e.g. not use your machines next tournaments, than siemens has no possibility to use this field for marketing any longer. the pr-possibilities for chess-classics are higher than the pr-chances for paderborn at all. so cb can make pressure on siemens only to give cb programs a primergy. You understand ? There are special "connections" between siemens and chessBase. ><snipped> >>i am sure some other programmers, >>e.g. shredder (stefan had a parallel version ready) would have profit also >>from getting this machines. >I thought that stefan had no time to do a parallel version because he was busy >in improving the engine. I don't think so. We had some discussions before the match what to use. And I think he had some experience with a 2 brain machine (clever+smart) in paderborn-matches the year before. >are we going to see a parallel commercial version of shredder. I am not sure. there is no need for such an engine in the moment. but he can do so. he has practised this in tournaments before. you should not forget that his doctor-father was ingo althöfer, the boss of 3-hirn ideas. ><snipped> >>but cb dominated >>in the first 5 rounds, maybe because of these machines. >Hiarcs had good result in the first rounds not because of these machines. >Maybe it could have better result against Junior and Fritz if chessbase did not >use these machines. exactly. they were really fast. hiarcs not. hiarcs is strong but junior and fritz got the faster parallel machines. >These machines were not so fast relative to the machines of some other players >(zugzwang,P.conners,cilkchess). of course. but these other machines are big parallel machines. related to the other pc machines the primergy xeon quad-cpu is fast. >Uri
