I really suggest you visit that page. You can copy the pseudo code for minmax
alphabeta or pvs. It is in the shortest clearest form and with a few tweaks (to
adjust it to your datasructures) you can use it rightaway... It *is* practice,
more than theory. Just try it...

If you want more detail you can download the source of many free chess programs.
See for links the same page. However easiest is the pseudo-code...
