The stuff you get off of the net (like from my site) tends to be collected from a bazillion different sources. When you want to *find* something later, it can be problematic. For instance, if you are looking for games by Bobby Fischer, you might have: R Fischer R.J. Fischer Fischer, Bobby Fischer, B Fischer, R and a billion other mutations, along with misspellings. A commercial system will have the names sanitized and organized. It will have duplicates removed along with errors in data entry cleaned up. In my chess database, a lot of the games will be real bowsers. Pretty much all of the games in a commercial system will be important or interesting or between great players or have some sort of "reason to be." You get what you pay for. Personally, I like Chess Assistant. I kind of like Bookup also. I cannot compare with other chess database systems (which I have not tried), but I suspect I would like them also. You just can't have too many toys. ;-)
