Subject: CM7000 - Excitement Lost

Author: Micheal Cummings

After hearing that CM7K will be released with the same engine as CM6K, my
anticipation for the release and excitement is now gone.

The thing that kept me going was the strength of the engine. If I wanted a
better database or use an opening book editor I would have used Rebel 10 or
Shredder which I have. It was the strength and the personalities that made me
use CM6K.

I think having the same engine in CM7K is pathetic. Even though the price is
cheap, well I assume it will be still cheap, there is nothing apart from pure
interest that would want me to get this program. If I can get the same game in
CM6K.

I suppose that for people who do not have money to spend and cannot afford a
more specialised chess programs for the use of the extra toys they provide, it
is a great choice.

If by all accounts it is the same engine. I say Mindscape should be ashamed,
Either get a new engine in there or do not release it till their is one.

Otherwise I might skip it till the release of hopefully CM8000, which by then I
hope the people from mindscape can get their acts together and not stick in the
same old engine again.

Looks like this program although strong is for the mass market, cause for any
other chess program to do this I think would not be looked upon greatly.

How would people feel if the next Fritz, Shredder or Rebel offered a few minor
changes and kept to the same engine. Who the hell would buy it.

To me this is a very poor state of affairs. And if it is also as I heard that
Johann and Mindscape could not come to some agreement, well I say time to get
some people in their who can make things happen so a better engine can be put
in.
