This is to give data on how things looked from our end, and also to see if this posting system is really back in order. The 1st game we were in book up till 18.Bd4 (we have 18.b3 and 18.e5). Junior briefly thought it had -0.4 out of book, but them saw Bxe4 works, and from then on the score never went below -0.15. Rebel had an alternative of 20.Bxg7 which Junior expected. This may lead to 2R vs. Q which doesn't look really attractive for white. The resulting black position had ugly features (king in the centre, rook disconnected), but with Q & R buzzing around an exposed white king I don't see what white can do about it. If white allows Ke7 or d5 it can become dangerous for him. Ed had a crash before 25.Rd6, and after that we thought it looked drawish and were busy discussing having another game with him and the ICC admin. The second game was different. The Scandinavian is generally a good choice against e4 preparations. I think there must be something wrong with 6...Bf5. It put us out of book (we have Bg4, and continuations trade B for N). The problem with Bf5 is that the bishop becomes an immediate target, and black cannot complete development in peace. Junior's moves Nh4, Qd2, Re1 (pinning the e-pawn) and h3 are all aimed at the bad bishop position. Ed and others blame 13...g5. I think Junior would have played it himself. The alternatives Be7,Rd8 or 0-0 don't look too good. Previously, Junior thought of playing 12.a3 but saw 12...g5 13.Nf3 Bxf3 14.Bxf3 g4 and didn't like it, therefore switching to 12.h3. After 13...g5, it took time to see that 14.Qxg5 is effective, since it gives up a pawn. This move would be easier for a master to find, since he would not mind being a pawn down in this position. The final move 22.d5 is quite spectacular. It threatens to take the queen, and of course 20 other things.
