Hello All chess players I would like to discuss the following alternative idea for a new chess programs rating list. First of all we have to define our objective: I believe most of you are interested in chess programs which have a better "human-playing" style (when you are playing chess) and a better "brute force" style, because maybe you want a overnight post analisys in a tactical position. Well, we have to first notice that these two request are in opposite points, and I believe (please, programmers correct me)that a match computer x computer would be a good test for better brute force style. but how could we test the "human playing" style ? Well, this have only one solution: make people play against programs. so, the idea is to gather a group of chess players and give them all the information and ideas about some openings. Them, setup the positions in the chess programs and make people play against them ! (of course the book would be off) We would be able to avoid "programmers cheat" (by giving the chess program the knowledge of a determinated opening) by exchanging the opening . From time to time we add more openings, etc... Of couuse this would take time, but the it seems the best way to see how do the programs play: For instance, would you buy a program which is on of the top in ssdf , but which is not able to win against a 1800 fide chess player ?? So, the entire idea would need: _ people with the chess programs _ chess studies about openings and positions _ TIME ok, that's all for a while Thanks in advance Ricardo Sant'Ana
