Hi fellows, what about a new protocol for the communication of chess moves? E.g. a TCP/IP based, that requires a net card and does not rely on the serial port. This is important for several reasons: - the auto232 is clearly showing its limitations; - serial ports are going to disappear. This is not imemdiate, but the USB will soon be the only option. And i gues that if the serial ports give problems, a USB to serial adapter could be even worse; - it could permit programs to play over the net, so that mathces could be played with machines in separate sites. The main problem I see with this is the fact that it could take some time for programmers to adopt it, but the set up of a task force today will permit to have the standard ready for the day USB will be the only way to connect a device to a PC. regards Franz
