I do not mean that money has to be on the line (although it is with Ed's
contests). Only that it has to be a public contest where something is on the
line (reputation, whatever).  GM's play micros all the time on FICS and ICC,
etc., but I think those results have no meaning because we have no idea what
they are after.  Are they just testing out some ideas?  Are they just being
silly and toying around?  That is what I mean by "something has to be on the
line."  I play very differently when I am just goofing around compared to when I
am serious.

I never said anything about money.  Indeed, reputation is probably a lot more
important.

If you have a chess database, then look it up.  There are literally thousands of
results like these.  How do you think that IM's become GM's?  They *must* beat
the GM's to achieve that level.  And we know that they do become GM's, or GM's
would not exist.

If you have enough proof, then I will say that you are convinced and that is
fine.  I require mathematical proof to believe it.  Quite frankly, they *might*
be GM's.  I really have no idea.  In any case, they can kick my butt, so they
are strong enough for me.
