Some nice test positions show up in this final phase of the game.
1.Here a good fighting move for white instead of Kf2 is Kf4.
8/1R6/1p6/6P1/8/1kp1K2r/8/8 w - - id Fritz 5.32 - Ct 12.0; bm Kf4;
2.It gives black a chance to blunder with c2 and throw away the win?
8/1R6/1p6/6P1/5K2/1kp4r/8/8 b - - id Fritz 5.32 - Ct 12.0; am c3c2;
Here Rh4+ is the better choice but computers may still find it problematic.
Try these out on your programs to see how they fair.
This is an extremely common theme in endings, of giving up a piece
for the passed pawn while countering with advancing your own passed pawn
with the king's help. Do programs still find this difficult?
