I don't think he is obligated to:

0.  Program crafty the way others want it (myself included)

1.  Keep quiet if it is used improperly

Crafty comes with source.  *YOU* can alter it to make it do whatever you would
like.  In fact, I have done so myself.  I do lots of really screwy things like
make stupid opening books, etc.  So I made some changes to accomodate my idiocy.
 Or alternatively, write an engine that does exactly what you want.
