Just picture it: "Two computers are there on the table ahead of you. Both >programs running and Yes! here comes a move! Now you have to read it, turn >yourself to get to another keyboard or mouse, enter the move... A couple of >seconds wasted" And what if Nature calls? And what if wife, kids, cats? ;-) >Remember - PB is on! You have to waste time equally while entering moves NOT >leaving your seat even for a second!" It is at least difficult, but possible >task. And we do it. > <much snipped > I don't agree here ; it is maybe a question of how _many_ games you play ; if you try to play 4 tournament games a day you will obviously be doing all these things : run to toilet , talk with wife , go to cinema , loose your job :=) ... To my experience 1.) games with PB off and PB on are different ; having exclusive access to the computer or sharing ressources makes programs behave differently , time management is spoiled etc. 2.) if you want to learn and understand about the progs watching games live helps very much ; in a game watched live you will know much more about the critical moments in the games , the blunders etc 3.) the data you get is most reliable : not for the world but for yourself because you know a.) every strange thing that happened b.) which game was fun to watch and which not ( minor issue ) , c.) you have good chance to find the answer to the questions that made you start the match so you d.) will do your best to let none of the possible errors you mentioned take place ; you have the most reliable tester of the world : yourself :=) no controversy intended though ; in fact I never understood the reason for all those fights about a thing you simply do for fun ( btw usually no programmer is involved in them := ) ) pete
