Hi, CM 7000 is this far the biggest mystery for me. It is said it has the same engine, King 2.61, but it plays differently. First what I did was a speed test. Yes, CM7000 calculates slower. For example, on my sow AMD 586 (P75) 133Mhz it to takes 93 seconds for CM7000 to reach the 8 ply when f3 is played in initial position. CM6000 needs 89 seconds in average for the same task. It makes 4 seconds difference. Similar slowdown on 200MMX as well. Second: Some provisional CPU usage tests for CM7000 vs CM6000 games. Result - no significant influence if everything done OK. Third: 10min blitz games just to feed my curiosity. CM7000 vs CM6000, PB OFF, both programs have 16 MB RAM, Game Details dialogue window started after every move of both programs to prevent CM from taking opponent's CPU. As CM7000 was found to be slower, I expected CM6000 to win more games. What I found was opposite: CM7000 scored 4-1 in 5 games. This for sure means nothing, but it made me to change my mind and try CM7000 against Chess Tiger 12.0. Games vs Chess Tiger 12.0: This far two 60min/games played. CM7000 plays white. Score 1.5-0.5 for CM. See games at the bottom of this message. I risk posting those games, but if I find something that I have not noticed and what makes an influence to my normal testing process, I will remove those results as not valid. I will re-examine everything once more tonight. Tips and work-arounds: CM 7000 still does not support any .epd, .pos or .fen positons. But here is the work-around for this problem: Open any .epd or .pos in Winboard (thanks, Tim, for your great program!) and save it immediately as a .pgn. Now read it in CM and :-) Welcome to "My own Computer Chess Site" (will be updated lated today) http://open.konts.lv/usr/Didzis/ http://didzis.cjb.net/ Have a great chess!
