Solutions are very hard to calculate and Eugene has done already a great job by making KQQKQQ and some other 6 piece databases available. KQPKQP will be larger than 4 Gb and with 32bit the maximum size that can be addressed is 4Gb. So it's not possible without modificating the current TBGEN to generate the tablebase KQPKQP. In my opinion KQPKQP will *NOT* get available on time to be in any use for the Kasparov - World match. But it will be there within a few years possible. >There was an email of Bob's posted on the msn bbs recently (not sure if >authorised or not!) about the need for 64-bit machines... If spare Alpha >capacity is of help I may be able to contribute. Distributed calcululating Tablebases is almost not possible. So if you have a fast machine you should do the job yourself. But the generator for KQPKQP is not available yet so you should be able to write your own generator too. >Also another question, is analysing the game with Crafty without tablebases of >any value at this stage? Generating all 4 men tablebases will fit in 150Mb in will take 2hours on a moderate fast machine. You can download the generator at: ftp://ftp.cis.uab.edu/pub/hyatt/TB/ If you have a fast connection you can also download all 4, 5 and 6 men tablebases. I have a very slow conection and received a few days a copy of a CD with KQPKQ, KQQKQ, KQPKP and KQQKQQ. If you want to have them I can produce a CD at cost price. But be quick because I leave in 2 days for a 2 week holliday! You can contribute your analysis to: http://www.egroups.com/wdb?method=reportRows&listname=computergang&tbl=1&sortBy=1&sortDir=down&start_at=0&prntRpt=1 I can post them for you there and you can also create yourself an account at: http://www.egroups.com/wdb >Databases aside, are we in the sort of position Crafty understands? eg the GM >School comment that we should not be concerned about the white pawn reaching g7 >as this is apparently quite common in this endgame - does Crafty take account of >this subtelty? Crafty is not especially optimized for the certain type of position but it will puge very good analysis. Kind regards, Michel Langeveld
