At this point, based on the reports I have read on this forum and a computer chess newsgroup...probably, YES. Or, at least, keep it in your drawer for a few months until some patches are released. I would estimate your chances of a successful CM7000 installation at about 75% -- meaning that it will probably install and work generally OK, with the usual minor bugs. There appears to be about a 25% chance that it will be too buggy, so that you will voluntarily uninstall it within a few days and revert to your prior version of CM. And it looks like there's about a 10%-20% chance that it will damage your computer system, requiring you to do some repairs after you uninstall it. At least, be informed, and educate yourself before you install it. It contains DirectX 6.1 and Quicktime 4, as well as video driver updates. You should become educated about how those things will affect your particular computer system. Please note that DirectX is NOT UNINSTALLABLE via normal means. So if you happen to get the wrong version for your system, you're just up the proverbial creek without a paddle. In that case, Microsoft (it's a Microsoft product) would recommend that you start by reformatting your hard drive!? There are uninstall utilities for DirectX from 3rd parties, but they're risky. It seems clear that CM7000 is a beta version, and those who try it now are guinea pigs for Mindscape/TLC. I feel sorry for those who will buy it during the upcoming holiday season. --JRM
