Many years ago, perhaps 1990ish, the SSDF decided their ratings had become inflated and dropped every computer by about 100 points. (I have a 6 minute memory, 10 years ago is a bit foggy). Perhaps they need to do this again. In a couple of years they will be using 1 or 2 gigahertz hardware, and presumable the programs that get tested on that hardware will so cream the pentium 90's that they'll be pushing 2800 ratings. Ah but this grandmaster strength debate will be interesting in a few years.
