I don't know if the debate is compeletely pointless, but I agree each OS has
strenghts and weaknesses.

I too don't understand the Linux credo of never paying for software. Frankly,
if someone offered a decent dev. envir. like VB, a good CAD program and a DBMS
like Access for Linux I would be happy to shell out the cash.

Right now Linux is light-years behind in the department of offering high-quality
commercial software. It's my opinion that situation won't be forever, though.

Sure, I've found beta software that works great. In MY experience however, the
vast majority of beta software caused so much trouble, I'm not going to risk it
on mission critical machines. I'm not going to waste dozens of hours fixing
someone else's problem.

On my home machine: Sure, I can see DLing some beta software. At work, no way,
now how.

From my point of view, a purchased beta product can be considered the

I can't stand the phrase "Service Pack." It's a bug fix. Nothing irritates me
more is when I call MS and the first thing the rep. blurts out is "Did ya
download the latest service pack?" Yeah right, my job revolves around keeping
track of all of MS's bug fixes.

Sorry KarinsDad. I think we'll have to agree to disagree on this one. :^)
