I am not having a go at you bruce, so I hope you do not get the impression I am.
Just that so many people copyright things for their safety on what they write or
create, but do not understand what copyright can and cannot do for them.

From what I thought copyright is there so no one person or group can use someone
elses work to gain from it in profit or use it to gain profit.

So if someone writes a small article or comment and someone posts this then as
long as they state who wrote it and where they got it from then it is okay. If
they have written something which they have gone on and sold, like a book, you
can take (small) extracts from that book and write them somewhere else as long
as it is not used in anyway to gain profit from using the given peice of
writing, and as long as you state the author and where you got it from.

Individual country copyright laws differ from what some regard as international
standards for copyright. So unless someone posts a whole article or book from
someone who wrote it for a finacial profit, then I will tell then to get
stuffed, that is what freedom of speech is, and if they live in a country that
does not allow this kind of thing, then I would love to see them to try and win
their case outside their country. Unless it had to do with religion, then they
have got no chance.

So basically it comes down to if you care what this person feels when he does
not want this information he wrote not used anywhere else. And in most cases no
one cares, thats the interent and media for you.

But as for offending copyright, well that is subjective depending where you come
from.
