chessmaster was never intended for chess people like us.instead, it is for the masses. it is for everybody, children or adult alike. it just so happens that their engine is fairly strong.even then, i would buy it for educational purposes for my kids. i think there is more money in this market than serious computer chess can offer. people running corporations think more of the money they make than anything else.ask an average chess enthusiast about fritz, and likey his answer would be"Fritz, what?", but ask him about chessmaster and an 'average' response would be an acknowledgement about the program.unless there is a serious competitor in the mass market for chess programs, then it would be time for these investors to fancy anything like what we have in mind but not at this time when other mass chess programs proved to be flops. when programs like extreme chess, power chess and other less notable competitors came to market chessmaster replied by upgrading their engine. now that none of these mass market programs threaten chessmaster's market, it is time to lay low and spend corporation money somewhere else. this is the power of monopoly.
