Hsu didn't attack _anyone_ "publicly". He sent a private email to Friedel, answering questions Friedel asked. If I want things I write to be public, I post them in public. If I want to communicate privately, I use what is sometimes called "electronic mail". Hsu did the same. Friedel took the private comments public. Not Hsu.
