I have put up about 50 questions so far since we started the opinion
poll, and there is not one question that has managed to squeak through
without someone saying that there was something wrong with the question,
or the answers, or the concept, or the direction, or the feelings it
could hurt, or the bias that it presented, or the foolishness of the
idea, or the ridiculousness of the subject matter.

On the last question (#49) there was some conversation about mentioning
the SSDF and the rumors of conspiracy. Some thought that the poll
question legitimized the claims by a couple of members that somehow
the SSDF was influenced by Chessbase. I simply wanted to see whether
the membership was somehow swayed by the arguments either way. It is
apparent that the overwhelming majority was not swayed by the
conspiracy theory. I happen to think that that is valuable information,
or, at the least, interesting information.

When Fernando and I made several pleas to have members come up with
questions AND possible answer choices, we were, more or less, ignored.
Occasionally, we received some timely questions and put them up, but
mostly we come up with the questions here at Your Move, and we always
comment prior to putting up new questions, that we wonder what is going
to be wrong with THIS question.

Don't get me wrong. I do not take it personally. It is no big deal.
I enjoy looking at the results, and I suppose others do as well. This
opinion poll is really just for the fun of it, but I do NOT want to be
the one who creates the questions, and we cannot put up questions
WITHOUT a series of possible answers, and I do NOT want to create
the answers myself, so if anyone is interested in having new poll
questions, we need both a well formed question AND a series of well
thought out multiple choice answers.

If I get this (you can email it to me at yourmove@icdchess.com), I
will present it to the moderators to get their input as to whether
they think it is a question that should be posted. If they say it
is okay, then it will appear.

Please understand, in the middle of the summer, when things are
slow, it is no big deal for us to create our own questions and answers,
but the holiday season is already here for us, and if the Opinion Poll
is to survive through the end of the year, the members are going to have
to do the "heavy" work.

Is Steve a jerk?
Yes - No - Abstain
is NOT an acceptable question:-))
