As many of your probably know, there was a question about a portable chess computer w/ a PII/200 processor in it. Is this thing actually in the works? If so, I had a few thought: 1.) Perhaps offer the board w/ "real" piece AND the ability to have a graphical image displayed on it. This would allow the user to sit any which way he/she chose. The user could simply touch the square he/she wanted to move and so on. 2.) Perhaps the engine should be a mega-strong "free" program.....ummm...Crafty comes to mind (hint-hint). 3.) Perhaps there should be a diskette drive in which the internal system could upgraded. 4.) If we wanted to take it to the next step, it could be used as a network device slaved to a computer. This way it could act like a "terminal" to other chess programs, engines, DBs, etc. Throw on a light port so there are no wires. 5.) What OS would it sit on? Written from scratch? Anywho. I don't know if this is a real thing in the works. Just thought I would pass it along. Anyone else interested?
