Hello Wayne,

Your impression about Hiarcs is probably right -- it may well be No. 1 on the
next list as it is just winning a G/10 tourney with Nimzo 7.32 and Fritz
Frankfurt behind... On the other hand, I myself seem to have better chances
against Hiarcs than Fritz though, but this is only a very subjective judgement.

I played most of the games under Winboard and Fritz.  You do not have much
confidence in game results under these two, but I can tell you that these
results reflect the comparative strengths of the engines rather well.
Furthermore, I believe that we cannot find out just how strong programs are
until they have played hundreds of tournament games against strong human
players.  Until they have done so we can only try to find some _statistical_
pointers comparing their _relative tentative ratings_.  And pitting them against
each other under Winboard or Fritz is both fun and not much off target
(regarding rating)IMHO.
