I don't know Deep Blue, have never seen many games played by it. On the other hand, I know the top commercial programs. I have them all and I play with them for many, many years. So I know exactly what I can expect from them and what their weaknesses are. Just play through a couple of hundreds of games (thanks to the autoplayers!) and you have a very good idea how a program is playing. Of course there is still a problem playing Black. As White you can determine the opening and then it is d4, c3, Bg5 and so on. But as Black you'll have to wait what the program cooks up for you. After 1. e4! it is a lot more difficult to get a closed position then after 1. d4. BTW, Nimzo played 1. d4 and after 1. ... c5! 2. d5 e5 I got exactly what I wanted. But to be honest, after 1. e4 this is much more difficult. Best regards, Jeroen
