I personally know a player who got a C placed after their name, but I'm not "certain" it was justified. I figured his blitz rating should have been 2550, but he was at 2700. Probably justified, but I don't know how CCC could make a for sure determination in his case. I know for sure he is a very strong player. Cheating to pick up just 150 rating points. How do you detect that for sure? I haven't talked to him about it. If I run into him, I will ask. > >This is really a poll question that should really be asked on icc but probably >many wont tell the truth or trust the anonymity part. > >I start by saying that i Have Never cheated on the internet! I suspect a player about once every 2 weeks. One in forty players would be a very rough guess. I think people are way too paranoid about this and fancy themselves as better at detecting cheating than they really are. I have seen players on ICC complain loadly about a "cheater", but when I finger the player, they have a rating of 1800 or less. If they are cheating, they aren't very good at it! I think it is a reaonable assumption that anyone with a rating below 2000 is most probably not cheating. Paranoia is the more likely explanation. The way I detect cheating in 2 ways: 1) I consistently fail to swindle bad positions. In one minute bullet, you should win a lot of games by swindle. Games should see-saw a lot between humans. Computers just kill you, when you goof. 2)In positions where my opponent has more than one way to win, my opponent shows a preference for the complicated way that wins more material rather than the simple win. Computers tend to choose the complicated way more often, but humans like the simple win. On the other hand, maybe I'm not paranoid enough. If a player only cheats in about half the games we play together, then I probably won't detect it, though in case two above, I might suspect.
