I know that Junior existed and was called Junior in late 1994 or early 1995 at
the latest. I asked why it ran on the "ban" account and I told it was because
"junior" had already been taken (by GM Gurevich).

For what it is worth, I think this whole thing is wrong. "Junior" is a pretty
generic qualifier. It is used to denote a reduced capability instance of
something more substantial, or in some cases a version meant for kids.

I don't think anyone has any right to this suffix, but I would think that Amir
has claim to the word by itself as denotes a chess program or something similar.

I wouldn't feel any need to get permission from Amir to make a "Ferret Jr.",
same as I would feel no need to get permission from Dave Slate, author of "Chess
4.9", etc. in order to call my thing "Chess Ferret".

I think that it is silly that this has gone on so long, and that anyone feels
the need to fight over it. It seems obvious that they should be able to use the
word.

I am not a lawyer, nor apparently is anyone else here, but I think that any
lawyer would be able to resolve this in a few minutes, and I would be profoundly
surprised if they were to suggest that Amir has permanently claim on the letters
"Jr" as related to any chess product.

Anyway, that's what I think, and I'd think it regardless of which of you guys
was trying to lay claim to the word. I just wish that the weird bad blood
between you guys would dissipate so that you all could make the same claim.
